The SPCA has an adoption counseling process for adopters to learn adoption guidelines and adoption options. Hello! Check me out - watch me zoom around the yard! I''m Maddie, and I''m spending my spare time working on my track-n-field skills as well as my manners. No, really - I''m here hoping you''ll take note for my skills and say to yourself - Wow, that''s the dog for me! Now being an overgrown puppy, you will need some patience to work with a high-energy lady like me. When I get super excited, I can''t help but use my mouth to express myself! I don''t mean to be rough and I''m like a puppy in that way. I bet with your help and plenty of tough toys or meaty treats, I will learn how to be a good girl! We can go on lots of walks to get all my wiggles and energy out. So let''s get done with this adoption business, and get on home! I''m full grown at ~61 lbs. ~My adoption fee is $95.00.~ Cats? Unknown. Dogs? Unknown. Children? Unknown. Housetrained? Unknown. How did I get here? Returned to Johnston County Animal Shelter because the child in the home wasn''t a Maddie fan. Something extra: I''m a giant puppy and need tons of exercise! Many adoptions will take approximately 1 hour or more. Adoption requirements and tips to speed up the adoption process: Please be able to provide a valid photo I.D. with your current address (If your I.D. does not reflect your current address, bring a piece of mail with your name and address on it) Be able to prove that you are allowed to have a pet where you live (proof of home ownership or a copy of your rental lease including the specific pet policy) Bring along all members of your household, including dogs for an introduction to a new dog. However, we do recommend meeting with an adoption counselor before involving children in the pet selection process. To avoid longer wait times, we strongly recommended that dog-to-dog meetings take place after 1:00pm. Participate in adoption counseling process to learn adoption guidelines and adoption options. Adoption Fees: Dogs & Puppies: $115.00 Cats & Kittens: $95.00 Rabbits: $50.00 Adoption fees include: Basic wellness exam, first vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, deworming and flea preventative. All cats and kittens have tested negative for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). All dogs and puppies have received heartworm preventative, and dogs/puppies over the age of six months have been tested for heartworms. All rabbits are spayed or neutered. More About American Staffordshire Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

The SPCA has an adoption counseling process for adopters to learn adoption guidelines and adoption options. Oh me, oh my, you''re here! I''m the wild pup named Azalea, and I''m bouncing with excitement at the idea of getting to go home with you forever! I may be technically grown, but that doesn''t mean I don''t still have the mind of a puppy! Guess what? I''m learning that people don''t like you to put your mouth on their arms and legs and clothes to say hello. Good to know! Did you know that I''m also deaf? Don''t worry, it doesn''t slow me down! I''m even learning some commands in sign language. That just shows what a smart girl I am! I''m going to need you to keep teaching me how to be nice around other people and animals, but we''ll have so much fun together while I learn! This is going to be the best life ever! I currently weigh ~50 lbs. and may reach ~60-70 lbs. when full grown. *I am currently living in a foster home- please speak with an adoption counselor about meeting me.* ~My adoption fee is $95.00.~ Cats? Probably not. Dogs? I love rough-n-rowdy friends! Children? Mature. Housetrained? Yes. How did I get here? Transferred from Wake County Animal Shelter. The SPCA has an adoption counseling process for adopters to learn adoption guidelines and adoption options. Seniors are a special kind of a companion! My name is Geronimo, and I’m ready to settle down in my retirement! What am I retiring from, you ask? All the crazy days of puppy-hood. Racing around the yard, wrestling, and all those puppy shenanigans are just not for me anymore. Now, don’t think all I do is lay around - no sir! Under this slightly gray fur beats the heart of a champion! I still love a gentle trot around the block and playtime with toys, to cuddle, and snooze on the couch. I also love and enjoy some tasty treats, but most of all I just want to share my love with you! So, if you are looking for a young-at-heart senior, with lots of love to give, here I am! I’m full grown at ~61 lbs. ~My adoption fee is $95.00.~ Cats? Unknown. Dogs? Yes. Children? Yes. Housetrained? Yes. How did I get here? I was returned as my family had to move. Something extra? I am a chill dude, looking for my golden years forever home. *Just like me, my medical history is a little more sophisticated than other canines.
