    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed. Meet Morgan and Libby, otherwise known as the twins. They are approximately one year old English Setter mixes . Morgan is a male and has a large black spot near the base of his tail, Libby a female and she is the smaller of the two. They came to us housebroken and well socialized with people , so at some point they had someone who cared for them. Both are crate trained, but only spend a few hours at a time in their crates. We s till don't know whether they need to be adopted out together, but we can say that both are very other-dog oriented and both need to be with another dog in their new home. B oth dogs are very good with both the elderly and the very young, but as they like to jump, neither of them should be in a home where young children or disabled elderly live. Morgan and Libby are typical adolescents and are still into stealing and tearing up whatever they can get. Both do well in day care. They are not walked daily on leash, but when they walk f ro m the car to day care on leash they do very well. Lib by plays with the little dogs and she plays gently with them , but Morgan tends to hang with the people until he gets to know the other dogs. When Libby and Morgan play together, they tend to play rough with a lot of growling and snarling taking place. Libby tends to be a food guarder, so the dogs are fed in separate places in the house. Both Morgan and Libby are big eaters, probably a result of being emaciated at the time they were rescued. They are being t aught to sit for treats and respect the one-at-a-time rule. Lib by is very sweet, but sassy and smart. S he is quiet about her thefts, and she really is stealing with a puppy attitude of fun...gloves, shoes, magazines, and many toys cannot withstand her sharp little teeth. Libby does love to be kissed and cuddled. She and her foster sister, Shelby, are fairly matched in weight and size and they box and wrestle and fuss and chase for hours on end. Libby loves to play. She is especially joyful when she first wakes up and when you arrive home from work. The se are really great dogs that can’t help that they are going thru their “teenage” years. Without a doubt, once they mature, they will be a wonderful addition to any family.

    RAYMOND

    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $325.00. My name is Raymond or “Ray Ray” for short. The vet said I am around 2 years old. I am not exactly sure what kind of dog I am but I sure am cute! I love playing with my foster brothers, going on walks, and my foster parents! It took me some time to get adjusted to my new life because I came from a neglectful and abusive home. I will admit I had trust issues at first but I'm told that now I'm a completely different dog! My foster family was patient with me and showed me how to be a real dog in a loving home! Now I am playful and energetic but also I know when it is time to settle down. I have an indoor crate that I sleep in when my foster parents are away but I am allowed to sleep outside of my crate at night. I sleep 8 hours at night and can hold my bladder just fine. My foster parents let me outside first thing when they wake up. I know to go to the bathroom outside and I have become a healthy eater! I love my dry food and treats. I will do just about anything for one of those! I like lounging around on the couch with you while you watch tv or read a book and on my bed while I look out the window. I still get a little nervous sometimes, especially if I am around people I do not know or am in a new place, but if you talk to me and reassure me everything is okay I will trust you. Cars also scare me when I go on walks but I do love to ride in them! I believe I would do best in a loving home with a brother or sister dog to play with and who can “show me the ropes.” I would prefer a backyard I can run around and play in that has a fence so I am protected from those scary cars. I am a good guard dog and I will let you know if someone is in the house who does not need to be there. I will do what I can to protect the people who love me. If you are patient with me and show me you love me, I will love you unconditionally! My foster family showed me how to love again and I hope you will continue to do the same if I am lucky enough to join your family! I have had all my vetting, heartworm prevention, microchip placed, and I am neutered. I am a great size at 44 pounds. Will you consider me?

Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). The first few years of my life were what most people would call offensive. I was part of a backyard breeder's kennel and things weren't the greatest there. I never lived in a house until I came to rescue, but I am learning. I still have a way to go, but I am motivated to live the good life. I am what you would consider a “work in progress,” but let me share what I have learned so far: I've stopped jumping on people constantly but I get excited every now and then and forget my manners. I've learned what 'no' means. I figured out the best place in the world is in a lap. I love binge watching TV and eating popcorn (in a lap). If you hold me then it's doggie nirvana. I'm learning to stay out of peoples way and not get under foot. I've learned that I must sit to get a treat and have all 4 paws on the floor to get petted. I forget this at times, but remember quickly with a verbal correction. If it gets me attention and love I'll do anything to make my people happy! I 'ROO.' If you have never heard a roo - it will surprise you. Now, here are a few things that I have to admit...I still struggle with: I am not fond of going into a crate - a big chunk of hot dog or a bowl of food will get me in without a fight - but, after a few minutes I do settle down. When you let me out I get real excited and zoom around the house and jump on you. This upsets Mom as she says I could hurt her. I counter surf - I want everything you have to eat because I was so hungry for so long. I am excellent at begging - again Mom doesn't like it - I don't get anything but I try. I need to be an only dog ‚Äč I am working on my house training - I now go outside without back in. I haven't figured out how to let my people know that I need to go out and I go in the house sometimes. When I lived outside I just went when and where I wanted to – I am finding out that is not acceptable in a house. This upsets Mom and that makes me sad. Please remember, I am a “work in process.”

    CODY

    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Pupdate: As the pups are getting adopted, the dynamics of the remaining pups are changing. Cody does still enjoy watching TV, if something catches his attention, but he also enjoys playing with his siblings or simply relaxing on the couch with a rawhide or toy. Poor Cody still continues to look worried, but we find his wrinkles adorable. Cody is doing well with the verbal commands that we use such as No, Stop, Down and Good Boy. Cody continues to be an affectionate little boy. He enjoys ear rubs and back scratches and is happy to show his appreciation with puppy kisses. As his siblings are getting adopted, he continues to relax and adjust with the remaining crew. I have changed my original opinion of Cody, not because he was rambunctious or pushy, but because he was more of a follower and THAT caused him to get a little rough with the others. Now that he has grown and matured a little, he is more likely to observe first and make better decisions on how he plays. Cody is hoping for a forever home this New Year!!!

    WRIGLEY

    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Hound / Mixed (medium coat). This adorable guy is Wrigley. He is a 3 month old who, along with his 10 liter mates, was rescued in KY. We aren't sure what he's mixed with, but he is adorable and sure to steal your heart. One thing we DO know is that he is an extra special puppy! While all puppies are super cute, Wrigley is truly a stand out. He loves to be held and also loves to be on the giving and receiving end of kisses. He enjoys playing with his humans and fur brother. Wrigley and his fur brother have become great friends. Though he is smaller and younger he does his best to keep up, and does a very good job. He enjoys a good tug of war or playing with a favorite ball. Wrigley is almost house trained and knows to run to the door the minute he gets out of his crate. He likes his crate and sleeps at least 10 hours at night with no accidents. We keep the crate door open during the day and he enjoys going inside and taking naps. What we find really special about Wrigley is what a big voice he has for such a tiny dog. While we love it, we feel he wouldn't be a good fit for those that live in an apartment. Wrigley loves children, dogs and craves the attention of his humans. He loves everyone he meets and will make someone a very loving and playful companion.

    BASIL

    rescue
    Breed: Border Collie-English Setter Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Basil is a 2 year old boy and the smartest dog I've met. He figured out in less than a day that the crate was HIS safe space, that when the other dogs run to the back porch he should go too, in order to potty. He knows his name and when you tell him to go do "poopies"he knows that he needs to go out and poop. All of his medical issues have been addressed and resolved. But there are parts of him that are still a mystery to me. Basil plays really well with my other dogs (a young male Labradoodle mix) and a senior female English Setter. Watching him and my other dog race around the backyard in a game of catch me if you can, makes me laugh and shows me the dog Basil wants to be. He has had exactly one "accident" in my house in over a month. He will hold it all night long and all day if need be. He is great with my cats (a 21 year old, a 3 year old and a kitten who is about 5 mos). When Basil sees them out in the backyard he will sometimes chase the 3 year old, but never the senior whom he gently sniffs; he is also gentle with the kitten because she is still on the smaller size. Now for the not so good news: Basil is terrified of men and does not walk as well on the leash as he should. He will not pee or do his business while on the leash and I've not been able to get that part under control. But let him out in the backyard and he will immediately squat. He is also VERY skittish: he will take treats from your hand most of the time but he always acts as if he is going to be hit or corrected when he does. It's sad to see him cower and sometimes I look at him and ask him "what did they do to you to make you so afraid of the hand of a person?" So far he has not shared with me that part of his story. But he comes out of his shell with the other dogs. He rides OK in the car but he seems to be afraid of where he might be going. That being said, I think he needs to have a fenced backyard and at least one other well-adjusted dog in the household. He does not seem to have any issues with other male dogs and no issues with dog-savvy cats. I have a neighbor child coming after school to let everyone out in the yard and play with them for a bit. Basil is very good with her so I think he would be fine with any child over the age of 5-6 when they are old enough to understand he is shy and to be kind to him. Basil is incredibly sensitive and gets his feelings easily hurt if you raise your voice to him or scold him - he does much better with positive reinforcement. If someone had the time and training to work with him on an agility course I suspect he would be great at that in time. Basil is also going to need time to relax. He loves his crate and will stay in there even if the door is open. Basil is such a joyful soul when he is relaxed and playing in the yard or playing in the house with my other dog. I know he craves affection because he responds positively if you "love on" another dog - he will come over to get some loving, too. The "jealousy" works best in getting him to let you touch him. And he took one of my old ratty tee shirts into his crate as a sort of security blanket so I know he wants that human contact. He has great potential as a family pet. There seems to be a little Border Collie in him so he is fast as lightning when he is running/playing and he is super smart but that tail flies at full mast like a setter. My vet thinks he is about 2 years old based on his gorgeous teeth. They love him there even though he is so shy because he is very compliant with what they need to do. Except when playing tug-of-war with my male dog, I've never heard him growl and even then it was a play growl.

    DUKE

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). Duke is a 8 year old neutered male English Setter. He was an owner surrender, because he was not comfortable in a family with young children. Duke gets a bit nervous when a person or dog gets in his personal space when he is lying down and can be a bit grumbly. We think that he may feel as if he is going to get hurt by being stepped on or sat on. While in foster care, Duke did well when our 12 year old granddaughter came to visit. He was happy and relaxed like a true gentleman. We feel that Duke would do well with kids that are old enough to understand and respect his personal space. Duke has an old injury that is non repairable; he has a bilateral tear to the ACL on his right leg. This tells us that he has had some fairly significant pain in the past, which may require arthritis meds in his future. Duke lives in a foster home with other dogs and he does well with all of them. He also lives with an indoor cat. When Duke is inside, he ignores the cats, but, on the other hand, when outside, if a cat runs he may give chase. I think it is safe to say that Duke would do well with a cat if that cat was strictly an indoor cat. Outdoors, Duke is a little more prey driven. For instance, Duke is not chicken friendly at all, and he has worked his way through a wire fence or 2 to get at the chickens. Because of his increased prey drive outdoors, we feel it is best that Duke have a home with some type of a physical fence. This boy is super sweet and he does enjoy being the center of attention. He is a talker and he will give you a long drawn out ROOO to let you know that he has to go outside or he thinks it is time to eat. Duke is not crated when we leave the house and he has proven to be respectful and trustworthy. When you return home, he will be waiting for you with more ROOO’s and his happy dance Do you have room on your couch for Duke?
