Posted Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound / Foxhound / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Sheila McGee (sheilamcgee2001@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet. Sweet, handsome boy needs a home!!! Come meet Pete and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (JAN 21) from 12-2 pm at the PetSmart in Gaithersburg (218 Kentlands Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878)!!!!!! PETE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Pete Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound/Hound mix Approximate Age: 3-4 years SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 55 lbs Has Lived With: dogs Currently Living at: DC foster Meet Pete! Pete is around 3-4 years old and is a super-handsome, sweet guy (and everyone knows that hounds are just the BEST)l! Although he was abandoned through no fault of his own, that doesn't seem to bother him one bit. While he is shy with new people and places, he warms up to his people and is a loyal pup. He is great with other dogs...and he doesn't mind cats, either! Pete is ready be your new best friend. He can't wait to get out of the shelter and start a new, better life with someone who loves him! Pete is an all-around great guy -- he gets along well with other dogs and has shared his kennel with a few of them. He also passed his cat test so we think he'd adjust well to living with a kitty! Pete says...Hi there, everyone! They call me Pete, and they say that I'm just the most handsome, sweetest, most loving boy EVER!! Do you have room in your heart and home for a pup like me?? I have a beautiful tricolor coat with that's super-soft…great for everyone to pet me (hint hint). :-) I weigh about 55 pounds (not TOO big), which makes me a perfect size for an apartment, house or condo!! They say I am probably some sort of hound mix…all I know is that I'm a happy pup and I love to play, get lots of pets, and give lots of doggie kisses! Read below for more info on Pete, and email sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org ASAP if you're interested in him! Pete is an awesome dog and makes friends with everyone he meets! At around 3-4 years old, he will need lots and lots of exercise to stay happy and healthy. Pete's new person or family will need to make sure he gets lots of socialization and playtime with other dogs and people to keep up the good social skills he has already! And like all dogs we adopt out, he'll need to go to obedience classes to build a strong bond with his people, and help him become a well behaved companion or family member. Like most dogs, Pete may need a refresher on his house training when he gets to a new home. He will also need to go to obedience school so he can continue to be a well-socialized dog! The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery and heartworm treatment. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and e-mail it to Sheila at sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org ASAP! Sponsors help Lucky Dog support the many dogs we save. To learn more about sponsorship, please contact Sheila at sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org. PETE NEEDS SPONSORS TO HELP WITH HIS HEARTWORM TREATMENT! Heartworm is NOT contagious to people or other pets. After being treated, dogs who were heartworm-positive should suffer no long-term effects as long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. E-mail Sheila at sheilam@luckydoganimalrescue.org to sponsor Pete!

Posted Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Please contact Meg Honigberg (megh@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet. Meet Handsome Hoss! Come meet Hoss and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (JAN 21) from 12-2 pm at the PetSmart in Gaithersburg (218 Kentlands Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878)!!!!!! HOSS NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Hoss Breed: Black Lab Retriever Mix Approximate Age: 1.5 year old as of November 2017 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 45 lbs. Has Lived With: other dogs, cats Currently Living at: DC Boarding! Special Adoption Considerations: Hoss is a great pup but gets nervous around kids so he's best for a family with kids over 12! Hoss is a sweet 1.5 year old Retriever mix. He weighs about 45 lbs and, because of his age, may fill out a little but is otherwise done growing. We don't know how this sweet boy ended up in a shelter but it hasn't dampened his spirits one bit and he can't wait to meet his forever family! Hoss will need plenty of exercise and playtime each day to be a happy and healthy pup. He would love to go on daily long walks, hikes and regular trips to the dog park. After he's tuckered out, Hoss loves cuddling up for a nice nap and belly rub. He can't wait to go to obedience training with his new family so that he can bond with his people and become his very best self! Hoss is good with other dogs and cats so he'd be a great addition to an existing pack or happy to soak up all the attention as an only dog. He passed his cat test at the shelter. He's not great with little kiddos so he will do best in a family with no kids or with kids over 12! Like most shelter dogs, Hoss may need a refresher on housetraining. He is likely crate trained. Hoss has tested positive and been treated for for Heartworm disease. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. The adoption fee for this dog is $450, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. Smarty Pants Little Dude is Looking for a Furever Home! Come meet Yayo and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (JAN 21) from 12-2 pm at the PetSmart in Gaithersburg (218 Kentlands Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878)!!!!!! YAYO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Yayo Best Guess for Breed: Labrador Retriever mix Best Guess for Age: 3.5-4 months as of 1/17/18 SEX: male Approximate Weight: 22.8 pounds Has Lived With: other dogs Currently Living at: Shelter. Yayo needs a foster, or better yet FUREVER home! Well, hola there! My name's Yayo, and I'm a 3.5-4 month old, 22.8 pound Labrador Retriever mix! I get to come to the mainland THIS weekend all the way from Puerto Rico, and I'm hoping to find my forever family right away... maybe that's with you? So, here's my story: It looks like I was born right around the time Maria hit Puerto Rico... talk about dramatic beginnings! With the storm itself and flooding and wind, the idea that a little guy like me could survive all that is pretty amazing. It could have gone HORRIBLY wrong from there... but it didn't! So, as you have seen on your news, Puerto Rico is still recovering. If you're a dog on the island and somehow made it through the storm, you automatically took on the added challenge of surviving after... imagine how hard it would have been for a tiny (at the time) puppy like me. I could have starved... but I didn't! Instead, some hoomans took me in. What are the chances? And, look at me now! In my video, you can see that a) I'm bilingual, and b) I am VERY smart, and c) though I don't have ALL my commands down PERFECTLY, I am learning--and I can't wait to learn more with YOU! I have lived a pretty charmed life so far, and I can't wait to bring all that good fortune to you! Because nothing is better than a good doggo with a good story, in my humble opinion... I am very young and still learning to be a grown-up dog, so I will need lots of patience and love while I practice my new skills and training. I'm not sure how I will do with cats or kids yet, but we can certainly find out when I arrive! In addition, I can't wait for you to enroll me in puppy kindergarten... I'll race right to the head of the class for sure! So how about it? Are you ready for an extra lucky boy like me to come wiggling my butt right into your life? Please fill out and submit an application for me today! Due to his young age, Yayo has not yet been spayed or neutered. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 4/1/18. Like most puppies, Yayo will need to work on his housetraining. Yayo will also need to go to obedience school so he can grow into a well-socialized dog! The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, please download our Adoption Questionnaire and email it to Liz K. at lizk@luckydoganimalrescue.org! Beautiful Spaniel Mix Come meet Natasha and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (JAN 21) from 12-2 pm at the PetSmart in Gaithersburg (218 Kentlands Blvd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878)!!!!!! NATASHA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Natasha Best Guess for Breed: Spaniel Mix Best Guess for Age: 16 Weeks as of 1/2/2018 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 20 lbs. Has Lived With: other dogs Currently Living at: DC area foster home Check out additional video of Natasha here: https://youtu.be/li61MEIUMuk and https://youtu.be/PSdVcAWZhrc. Special adoption considerations: Young puppy who needs lots of structure, exercise, frequent potty break, and socialization; commitment to spay by 3/1/2018. Natasha is shy so she needs to go to a home with a second dog there to show her the ropes for confidence building. Oh my Gosh.....look at this beautiful pup Natasha! She is fully vaccinated and ready to go play in the snow with you. Natasha says "Please come adopt me". She is waiting for you! Natasha is approximately 16-week-old, 20 pound, female, Spaniel mix looking for her very own forever home. She is really grateful that the nice people at Lucky Dog gave her the chance to come to DC and find her special person or people. Do you think you have some space in your home for a little bed, some fun toys, and maybe some yummy treats? I wouldn't take up too much room. I wish I could go to obedience school so I could learn some real doggie manners. I would try so hard and I bet I could be the best in the class! I love playing with other dogs! I haven't met any kids or cats, but I'm willing to give it a try. I think I would really like to snuggle up on a couch for a nice nap. That sounds heavenly! Due to her young age, Natasha has not yet been spayed. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 3/1/2018. Like most puppies, Natasha needs to work on her house-training. She will also need to go to obedience school so she can grow into a well-socialized dog! FOSTER UPDATE 1/10/18: Natasha LOVES, LOVES being outside AND other dogs, more than any other dog I have ever had/fostered. It’s been freezing and she wants to go out. She’s improving walking on the leash but in general she’s happy just being out. And I think she’ll be a larger dog that needs exercise so hopefully we’ll find a family that loves the outdoors too because she’ll be a terrific companion for walks, hikes, and runs. The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. My brother, sisters and I are currently in Puerto Rico but will be catching our freedom light to the mainland on 1/20! We are very young puppies in the market for some forever homes. We may be little now but we are going to grow up to be big, athletic dogs. We are dreaming of living with families who will make sure that we get lots of love, plenty of walks, playtime with other dogs at the dog park and a chance to go to school so we will learn manners and become very well behaved adult dogs. Little Leyla is not old enough to have had all of her vaccines. It will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, she is at greater risk for illness than an adult dog. Due to her young age, Little Leyla has not yet been spayed. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 3/15/2018. Like most puppies, Little Leyla will need to work on her housetraining. Little Leyla will also need to go to obedience school so she can grow into a well-socialized dog! The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.
