    LIBBY

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed. Libby is an approximately one year old female English Setter mix. She came to us housebroken and well socialized with people, so at some point she had someone who cared for her. Libby is good with both the elderly and young kids. However, she does like to jump (a behavior that we are addressing) so until she gets her jumping under control, it might be best if she is in a home with no small children. Libby is your typical adolescent and is described by her foster mom as a combination of sweet, smart and sass. It is that sass that still needs to be monitored closely. Just because she has hit that one year mark does not make her free and clear of puppy mischief. Any dog, regardless of age, is capable of mischief if not monitored and trained properly. Libby is very trainable and I am sure that once she has the proper guidance and knows her boundaries, she will blossom into adulthood very nicely. Libby is crate trained, but only spends a few hours at a time in her crate. She also goes to doggie day care and she does well there playing with the other dogs. She especially likes the little dogs and is very gentle with them. Please let us stress that this girl LOVES to play. She is a big eater and tends to be a food guarder, probably a result of being emaciated at the time she was rescued. The dogs in her foster home are fed in separate places in the house. She is being taught to sit for treats and respect the one-at-a-time rule. Libby is really a great dog that just needs some training and guidance in her “teenage” years. She loves to be kissed and cuddled. Obedience classes would be a great way to train and bond with your new girl - she is certainly up for the challenge! Without a doubt, once she matures, she will be a wonderful addition to any family. If you are looking for a young female dog to add to your family, please consider Libby!!

    NESSA/MINA

    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Mina is a sweet, sweet 1 year old, female Setter mix that has the softest ears on the planet, the most adorable white eye lashes and a crazy tail. Her owner states that she is a very lovable, smart dog, and a definite cuddle bug however, her mom feels that she needs an owner that is home more. Here are a few comments from her current home: Mina really is a very sweet and lovable dog. She puts herself to bed every night at about 10-10:30. I’m up much later, but she knows when she’s done! Mina is wonderful in her crate. She can tell when I’m getting ready for work, which is a different time every day, and goes into her crate, all by herself. Smart girl! Mina loves to curl up beside me on the couch or at night, in bed. She plays well with other dogs – the bigger the better! She will play with any dog who comes over to play. My guess is that she would be happiest in a home where people are home most of the day. I have a fenced in yard, and she spends a good amount of time outside exploring either with my other dog of by herself. Mina is happiest when I’m home all day. She alternates between being a shadow and wandering around outside. If I’m home, she’ll follow me from room to room, and if I’m on the couch, she’ll have her head on my lap. Mina will gently paw me, if she needs attention. She knows sit, shake and lie down and also come, when in the back yard. I have a dog door, and it took no time for her to learn how to use it. (I also have a fenced in yard.) She settles down quickly when people come over to visit. Mina does get along with my other dog just fine during the day, however at night, she gets possessive. I think she’d be happiest with an active family, with or without another young dog. So lets recap – Mina is a sweet, lovable and smart girl that gets along with other dogs, however, she has an issue in the evening when she gets a bit grumpy and tired. Mina is a young girl and she is very trainable. She is not a bad girl, she just needs someone that is home more and can work with her. As I like to tell people, she needs someone with a firm heart and a loving hand.

    MORGAN

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Morgan is an approximately one year old cute setter mix. He came to us housebroken and well socialized so at some point he had someone that cared for him. Morgan is a very observant dog and a good watch dog as he notices things that other dogs do not. When he began growling one night, I realized that when the heat came on, it turned the ceiling fan above the grate every so slightly. Morgan was taking no chances that the moving fan wasn't trouble so he gave it fair warning! Morgan is the only dog I have had that actually watches television. Not just notices it, watches it! He spends as long as 20 minutes watching the screen. Morgan does not generally climb things, but we are working on his counter-surfing. Since he is a tall boy, he has a long reach, but with a shake of a can partially filled with pennies, he will stop the unwanted behavior. Morgan is gentle but energetic and he loves to spend hours playing with my other dog. He has never bitten, but sometimes he will sneak in a nip while playing. Morgan would probably do best in a home with another dog. He also loves to play with children and is good with seniors. Morgan is a big eater, probably a result of being emaciated at the time he was rescued. He has been changed to a grain-free food as his skin seems to be a little sensitive so attention should be paid to what he is fed to see if it has any impact on his skin. He is being taught to sit for treats and respect the one-at-a-time rule. This boy loves to chew on his Kong bones! Morgan is crated for up to five hours at a time and he is fine being crated as long as a treat is thrown in for him to settle down with. Morgan is a typical setter boy, in that he absolutely loves to be cuddled and kissed. Morgan loves, LOVES to play. He is a really great dog that can’t help that he is going thru his “teenage” years. Without a doubt, once he is mature, he will be a wonderful addition to any family.

    GUMBY/BJ-ADO...

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). Gumby/BJ is a super sweet 5 year old, male Setter that has the most amazingly soft fur! Everyone wants to touch him and this boy does not disappoint. Everyone who meets this boy loves him. Gumby/BJ made his way into rescue when his owner was admitted into the hospital. While in the hospital the owner's daughter broke into the home and threw a week long party, leaving poor Gumby/BJ alone in his crate – no food, no water and no place to go potty. He has a little anxiety which we suspect stems from that period of his life. While he is still a work in progress, I can see the dog he will be with time, a firm heart, gentle hands, and patience. He does not seem to have any sort of issues with men, women, cats, other dogs. He loves the car although his manners in the car could be improved. Is this boy birdy?? He would stop in the middle of peeing to watch the birds in the trees… so does that answer that question? He is beginning to show signs of wanting to play with my dog Charlie, but he is apprehensive around my female ES who is a total brat and hateful to everyone except Charlie. If she sits next to Gumby/BJ for a cookie, he will move over about 6-9 inches to give her more space. I've seen zero signs of dominance with him. He is not very good on the leash right now, and is very strong for his size. I'm hoping that a gentle leader might help with that. I've not used one on one of my dogs in a decade but if it helps him get the walking on the leash struggle under control it will be worth in. Gumby/BJ is good in a crate and has never soiled or torn up anything in his crate. I think he will need a home with a strong male in the household, and he will need a household where he either has a big yard to run in or someone who can maybe jog with him. I think in the right home, Gumby/BJ is going to learn to be a complete gentleman as I suspect he was prior to his incident. If you are interested in adopting soft, furry Gumby/BJ, please fill out an application.

    DESTINY/DESY...

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). Destiny (Desy) is a 5+ year old, liver and white adorable girl. Desy does not like a lot of commotion. She enjoys quiet time and likes being held and being beside her person as much as possible. If there is commotion she will remove herself and go somewhere quiet. She sleeps in bed with me, is very snuggly and likes to give lots of kisses (some are sneaky and very invasive). She insists on being on the furniture but is very quick to learn so I’m sure if taught, she would learn to stay down. She has been to my work, friends' houses with older kids (she cuddles right up and follows them around – she loves kids), and has been to my mom's home as well. She discovered chickens and tweety birds and is fascinated by them . It’s as if she’s learning what everything is for the first time. She also is able to make herself at home wherever she goes. Desy is blind in her left eye and also has an old knee injury on the hind left leg. She had trouble walking (falling) when she first arrived. She also had toenails that were almost curled under her pads - she just seemed stiff all over. She did quite a bit of stretching that first week to work out the stiffness. After getting her nails trimmed and her stiffness worked out, she was no longer falling when walking. If she spends too much time up and walking she gets stiff and holds up that rear leg. Destiny is ok with walks but they have to be very short. She is learning the basics of riding in the car and is loving it. She is not sure about going under underpasses (she ducks and looks up). Desy is learning to stay in the car when you get out and waiting her turn, but she is very, very fast if she wants to be somewhere you don’t want her to be. Desy is getting comfortable being out in the yard and exploring. She is very barky and territorial so she will need some type of fenced yard, because, the more she gets used to the yard the less she knows her name, if you know what I mean. Destiny is accepting of other dogs; however, she does not like my hyper one and tends to snap if he gets close to her. Desy has also met a few cats and after getting swatted by one, she has learned to ignore them. She is good about not begging for food unless there are multiple dogs and she watches them. She does try to counter surf and that girl will drink out of your cup given the chance. But everyone eats together in the kitchen in separate corners without much of an issue. She does stay in her crate for me but that is only for her safety because of my dog. Des y is house trained and has not chewed anything yet but she is still getting comfortable. She tends to bark when I leave but I have noticed that is diminishing. She tolerates getting a bath and blow dry and she seems to be getting a bit of her hair back. She had dermatitis and alopecia from her flea infestation. She is also prone to eyelid tumors because she has no pigment around her eyes. My vet stresses that as soon as anything is noticed she needs to be seen and the growth needs to be removed. Desy will make a great dog for an inactive individual or someone who primarily wants a lap dog.

    LUKE -NOT CU...

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Baby
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Born: January 11, 2018. His mommy was a pregnant stray, brown and white English Setter, surrendered by a loving family. The momma had 7 puppies, 4 of them came to ABESR (Luke, Leia, Chewy and Solo). Two words to describe Luke: floppy and fluffy. Luke has two black eyes, and the rest of him is white. He has a few small black spots that are covered by his fluffy white fur. He has MUCH more fluff than a normal English Setter-- his hair is very thick and sticks straight out from his body. He assures you that he is NOT fat, he is fluffy and beautiful! Luke loves to find laps to sit in. He will follow a human around until they sit down, and then crawl into their lap. If that human stands up, he will find the next closest lap to sit in. He likes wrestling and giving puppy kisses to the bigger dogs, and usually pays attention when they do not want his kisses-- although sometimes when he's excited and energetic, he forgets to listen to the big dogs and jumps on them anyway. Luke loves to play fetch. His foster mommy can throw two balls at once, and Luke and Leia will each bring back one ball without fighting! They also insist on sharing food bowls. Luke has laid back to normal puppy energy levels, but will occasionally get spurts of puppy energy and just wants to run for 10 minutes solid, then immediately go to sleep. He is currently learning potty training. He works best on a regulated schedule because he does not tell his foster parents when he needs to potty, although he does exhibit tell-tale signs if you're watching him closely. He sleeps through the night, and has not had a single poop accident indoors. Luke is food motivated, and will sit for treats about 80% of the time. He does well with a verbal "no" command, and is growing out of his "bite everything because I'm a puppy" phase.

    CODY III-ADO...

    Breed: English Setter
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter (medium coat). Hi! My name is Cody and I am a very handsome Orange boy that is about one and a half years old. I am neutered, healthy, and up to date on all of my shots. I've been staying with a foster mom and she ways that I am a very sweet boy, but I am shy. I am happiest when someone is home with me. My foster mom feels I would do better in a home where a family member is home most of the day or a family where I can have another dog to be with! She also feels that I will do best in a quiet home where someone could help me build my confidence. I am crate trained and am doing very well with house training. I am starting to run to the door and back to foster mom to tell her I need to go outside to potty. Foster mom doesn't have a fence, so I go outside on my leash to go potty. I know the routine and run right back inside. I love my chew toys, bones, and waffles (I was very skinny when I got to my foster home and foster mom is helping me put on some pounds!). I have a cat friend in my foster home and she is nice to me. I don't even mind when she comes over to check on me to see what I am doing. I would be ok with being a total couch potato, but foster mom makes sure I get outside for walks a few times a week. My foster mom says that I am doing well walking on my leash. If you think that I might be a good fit for your home would you please fill out an application and talk to my foster mom - that would make me very happy. Oh, I almost forgot, I like to have my chin rubbed and I love belly rubs!!

    DOTTIE

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Hello, my name is Dottie III or “Dot” for short. I am a small one to two year old English Setter that is “sweet as apple pie” (or at least that is what my foster parents say). I get along with all of the dogs in the house and understand their boundaries and when to play and when to relax. I love my humans too! So much that sometimes I cry for them a bit when they leave the house. I love to run outside and play in the fenced in yard with the other dogs, but I am equally content being an indoor dog too. One of my favorite places is to be curled up between my foster parents. Speaking of favorites, did I tell you that belly rubs are mandatory? I just love them and require them on a daily basis. My history is a bit unknown. I can’t understand why I was placed in a shelter - I am such a sweet dog. But it was a good thing, because I don’t think my life before then was very nice. I am a very submissive dog and sometimes I cower when a voice is raised or someone moves a hand too fast. I also have to deal with these “things” on my stomach from when I had puppies…they are a little stretched out from all that nursing, but I am sure they will get smaller with time. I also think I need to gain about 5 lbs (I am currently 39 lbs) as I am a bit underweight - oh, did I tell you I am VERY food motivated Speaking of food, I am a curious dog and will go hunting for things to eat that resemble something tasty. I am still learning not to surf the kitchen counters for food. My foster parents know better than to leave anything laying near the edge of the counter where I can access it. If it smells like I can eat it, I will drag it to the floor to be sampled. At the food bowl, I am not aggressive and I eat with the other dogs in the house. I can get a little excited and throw a bit of kibble on the floor, but don’t worry, I will clean that up! I know a couple of basic commands, like sit, but don’t expect me to be well trained. I am super smart and I think that all I need is some basic obedience training. When I am outside, I usually come when I am called, but I shouldn’t be trusted off lead unless I am in a fenced-in area. When the humans want to go outside, I will bolt for the door to be outside with them. I am pretty quick and I have escaped many times into the back yard. I suspect the humans are catching on to my shenanigans though as they have started bribing me away from the door with the promise of food. They have also resorted to holding my collar when necessary. I like the crate but feel abandoned if the room is empty and I will cry for a few minutes. I soon settle down though and see the crate as a positive place. At night I will run into the crate to sleep. My foster parents have let me up on their bed for a couple of “sleep overs” and I did really well. So here is me in a nutshell…If you are looking for a super sweet dog, then I am your girl!In summary, Dottie is a VERY friendly 1-2 year old setter. She is a small dog, barely 40 pounds and, being a young dog, high energy! She shows zero aggression in any situation and is very submissive. She rolls onto her back for tummy rubs all the time and we are convinced she will wear her tail out, it NEVER stops wagging. She does counter surf a little so we try to keep anything tasty under lock and key. Other than that and, her brief disapproval of being crated when we leave the house, we really cannot think of any issues at all. Her future humans need to be watchful of her though as she is a bit of an escape artist. Despite our having a fenced yard with four other dogs who apparently lack her determination, she managed to be on the outside looking in…at them looking out at her, how, we will never know! She will make a wonderful pet and we would recommend a household where she is not regularly left alone for the full day. This is a very social dog who is attached to her humans and so not suited to a house where she is left alone when the humans are at work for 8 hours etc. That being said, she has grown very much accustomed to the crate and is happy being in there, falling asleep after a few minutes protest! We have left her alone uncrated for up to 2-3 hours with no damage when we return to the house. We are increasing that period slowly as we build trust in her. We are confident that in time she could be left out for a full day once she is comfortable in her new home and understands she hasn’t been abandoned. If she is with other dogs this is even less of an issue. If you are looking for a friendly, playful, smaller setter that has zero aggression and loves nothing more than to sleep in your lap, you just found her!

    RAYMOND

    Breed: English Setter-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: English Setter / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $325.00. My name is Raymond or “Ray Ray” for short. The vet said I am around 2 years old. I am not exactly sure what kind of dog I am but I sure am cute! I love playing with my foster brothers, going on walks, and my foster parents! It took me some time to get adjusted to my new life because I came from a neglectful and abusive home. I will admit I had trust issues at first but I'm told that now I'm a completely different dog! My foster family was patient with me and showed me how to be a real dog in a loving home! Now I am playful and energetic but also I know when it is time to settle down. I have an indoor crate that I sleep in when my foster parents are away but I am allowed to sleep outside of my crate at night. I sleep 8 hours at night and can hold my bladder just fine. My foster parents let me outside first thing when they wake up. I know to go to the bathroom outside and I have become a healthy eater! I love my dry food and treats. I will do just about anything for one of those! I like lounging around on the couch with you while you watch tv or read a book and on my bed while I look out the window. I still get a little nervous sometimes, especially if I am around people I do not know or am in a new place, but if you talk to me and reassure me everything is okay I will trust you. Cars also scare me when I go on walks but I do love to ride in them! I believe I would do best in a loving home with a brother or sister dog to play with and who can “show me the ropes.” I would prefer a backyard I can run around and play in that has a fence so I am protected from those scary cars. I am a good guard dog and I will let you know if someone is in the house who does not need to be there. I will do what I can to protect the people who love me. If you are patient with me and show me you love me, I will love you unconditionally! My foster family showed me how to love again and I hope you will continue to do the same if I am lucky enough to join your family! I have had all my vetting, heartworm prevention, microchip placed, and I am neutered. I am a great size at 44 pounds. Will you consider me?
