The SPCA has an adoption counseling process for adopters to learn adoption guidelines and adoption options. Hey! Hello! Are you interested in me? I know I can look a bit intimidating, but I'm really just a big ol' sweetheart. My name is Briggs. Grab some treats and come on in and hold them out to me. I take treats very gently and then I'm your best friend! Do you have a wonderful yard that we can hang out in? Or a nice walking path we can hike? What about a bunch of toys for me to play with? I can't wait to see what our new life together brings. Will I be sleeping with you in your bed? Or will I have a bed of my own? I'm a good cuddler but I do take up a lot of room, so we'll see what works the best. Ready to find out? Let's go! I am full grown at ~88 lbs. *I have been diagnosed with heartworm disease and will begin treatment soon - please speak with an adoption specialist for details.* *I am currently living at the admission center - please speak with an adoption specialist about meeting me.* ~My adoption fee is $95.00~ Cats? Unknown. Dogs? Unknown. Children? Unknown. Housetrained? Unknown. Training needs? I know sit! Energy level? Unknown. How did I get here? Transferred from Wake County Animal Center. Many adoptions will take approximately 1 hour or more. Adoption requirements and tips to speed up the adoption process: Please be able to provide a valid photo I.D. with your current address (If your I.D. does not reflect your current address, bring a piece of mail with your name and address on it) Be able to prove that you are allowed to have a pet where you live (proof of home ownership or a copy of your rental lease including the specific pet policy) Bring along all members of your household, including dogs for an introduction to a new dog. However, we do recommend meeting with an adoption counselor before involving children in the pet selection process. To avoid longer wait times, we strongly recommended that dog-to-dog meetings take place after 1:00pm. Participate in adoption counseling process to learn adoption guidelines and adoption options. The SPCA has an adoption counseling process for adopters to learn adoption guidelines and adoption options. Are you looking for a dog with some sass? Well good because my name is Cass! To be fair I wouldn't call it sass so much as opinions, but sass rhymes! My opinions are that you should take me home right now and play with me a lot. I love to watch tennis balls get thrown but I haven't learned to bring them back yet. I can get bored sometimes and chew on things so you should get me lots of toys that I'm supposed to chew on to keep me occupied, especially when you have to do human things and can't snuggle. I don't have many manners yet, but I absolutely love treats so I'm sure if you offer me treats for being good that I will learn my manners in no time. What do you think? Are you ready to take me home and make me the best dog ever? Let's go! I am full grown at ~45 lbs. *I am currently living at the admission center - please speak with an adoption specialist about meeting me.* ~My adoption fee is $95.00~ Cats? Perhaps not. Dogs? Jodi

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Labrador Retriever
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. **Physical fenced in back yard required**No apartments** Hello! My name is Jodi and yes I am a handsome black lab mix. I got my name from the military cadence call, left, left, left, right, left. I am truly house trained, know my commands, ease and am great on a leash (when there are no other dogs around), enjoy going on walks, short or long, love a nice car ride, and really love people. I do have what is called “leash reactivity” when I see other dogs while on a leash. It is going to require continued and consistent training for me to overcome this obstacle, but I know that with the right family working with me I can learn that I don't need to be reactive. I am good with other dogs when I am off leash, for example at doggy daycare, but I should not be kept off leash near my home as I am a protector and will guard my area from intruding animals. It's just me and two adults that are in my house. I am used to an invisible fence at my home but I am looking for a physical fence in my new home because I am very protective of my yard and want to avoid having issues should unwelcomed guests come into my invisible barrier. I like playing hide and seek in the house, tell me to sit and stay, go hide, call me once and I'll find you. I am a gentle giant and very behaved in the house. I take treats very well, I don't beg at the table. I do sit and stare hoping for a few dropped crumbs or a table scrap, but no noises. At my home now I am not allowed on the furniture, but I did get caught on my humans couch once (Whoops!), so they got me another bed to be used in their main gathering room. I don't need, want, or use a crate. I am trusted in the house alone, usually just sleep while you are out. I like treats and working on retrieving, not with a ball but with my bone. I don't mind getting a bath outside either. As far as water goes, been in it up to my belly and liked it. I have lived in a home with other dogs in the past, but for now I would rather be the sole dog in the house, although I do have two cats that I am friendly towards now. Quick Facts: Breed: Labrador Retriever mix Gender: Male and neutered Age: 6+ Size: 90 lbs. Good with people, mainly adults, greet children well. Dogs: Not on leash, but have done well off leash at doggy daycare and have lived with other dogs in the past Cats: Yes, lives with 2 Kids: been greeted by 2+ up to 6 years so far History: My mom passed away a couple of years ago and I was taken in by her daughter. Second Chance was contacted by my owner's daughter to place me into their adoption program. I was adopted by a nice family, but they have a lifestyle that is not conducive with my needs, so I am looking for another home again. I know this next home is going to be just the one I need to stay in forever!!! Personality: I am a big lover, feel free to cuddle with me on my bed, its big enough for two. Or the floor will do, too. I also love to have my head rubbed from my eyes, ears and down my neck. I usually try to ease my head onto your lap for a quick rub or caress. I will lay at the edge of the couch while you are on the couch, a little rub by your foot or lowered hand is nice too. I am a great sleeper. I think I am worn out by my walks. I am not an early riser, you get showered and dressed first then I'll be ready to be let out. You will know when I need to be because I will walk about and gently whine. I am not a really furry dog, so not too many fur balls rolling around. Only thing rolling around is me in my owners grass, I love to do that. I come back up all masked in dry grass. My coat is shiny and I like to be brushed. I am pretty low maintenance. I mentioned I am being trained to be polite to other dogs while on leash, which is going to take time and patience. I don't scare by trucks or cars passing by on the street. I pretty much prefer to be hanging out on my own, on a dog bed, chewing on a bone, or in the same room an arm's reach away while you watch TV or work at your desk. Cohabitation: Great with humans, cats, they rule and I follow in line. Dogs, well I've successfully lived with them in the past, but for now am hoping to be the only apple of your eye. Favorite Activities: * Going for walks * Hanging out in the same room as you * Playing in the yard, but not for too long for I am 6 years old Reason for looking for a new home: I am looking for a new home because my owners lifestyle is different than my preferred lifestyle. Medical: No issues Summary: Jodi is a great loving dog and would be a great partner with adult(s) who wants a companion. Jodi is a big, fit and, strong dog and would need a strong master. Jodi currently lives on two acres and would like to have some space to run. I am neutered, up to date on vaccines, have been microchipped, am current on my monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, and have been dewormed. My adoption fee is $275. If you would like to learn more about me, please e-mail the Dog Program Manager at laurasecondchancenc. If you think I may be the one, please fill out an adoption application on our website: .secondchancenc. Thank you!!!
