  • Italian Greyhound Dog For Adoption in Statewide, NE, USA

    Nelli

    rescue
    Breed: Italian Greyhound
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Italian Greyhound (short coat). Sweet, beautiful 9 yo Little Miss Nelli comes to us from the south and is continuing her social rehabilitation in one of our wonderful foster homes in Lincoln, NE. She is new to us so we are still learning about her. What we do know is she came from a puppy mill living out her entire life in a cage. No way for a dog to live. She is now exploring and learning how to be a dog and how to trust and also how to be someone's pampered pet. She will need a home with someone who is saavy with puppy mill dogs or real timid dogs. We do want her to have a fenced yard as she LOVES to zoom around and run, run, run and "hunt". She deserves that after so many years in a cage. She does great with her foster IG siblings and loves to snuggle up with them and learns the "ropes" from them. She has been great with the two other large dogs in the home as well. However, they are calm and not the playful type. She is nervous around large, playful and active dogs. She seems to really enjoy kids as long as they are kind and respectful. She has been learning leash skills and has been enjoying neighborhood walks as of lately. She is going outside to potty beautifully when let outside and is also potty pad trained for inclement weather. She does crate nicely and quiety overnight without a peep and while foster mom is away. She does not prefer to sleep with her human, at least at this time. At this time, she is more dog attached than human attached but we are hoping with more time and love, this will change. She is not a jump in your lap and snuggle kind of dog right now but will allow petting when she is snuggled up to her IG foster siblings. They bring her comfort and we do want her in a home with another small dog or two. If you think you can provide Nelli a patient, safe and nurturing home while understanding that right now she is not the typical "follow you all around the house and jump in your lap and snuggle you under the covers" IG, please get in touch with us. These mill dogs do make wonderful strides once they leave the mill behind but it can take quite a long time and it is very rewarding to watch. Please visit us at midwestigrescue.com to learn more about the adoption process and to fill out an application. We do require an adoption donation fee to help us cover the cost of vetting while they are in our care. This fee varies depending on their age. Our applicaton process consists of a completed application, vet and two personal reference checks and home visit. We do require that your resident pets be spayed or neutered and have routine veterinary care and check-ups. Our dogs are available for adoption in Nebraska and Iowa and will be considered for adoption to surrounding states (within a reasonable day drive). We DO NOT transport or ship dogs. You would be responsible for picking up from foster home. If you are in a state other than NE or IA, you will need to work with your state's IGCA representative in order to get your application processed and approved before being considered. Please use the website igrescue.com to find your state's affilate and rescue representative. Thank you for your understanding!

    Hugo

    rescue
    Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Adoption Fee: $275. German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information. Hugo is a handsome, very sweet young boy who came to us from a Reservation in SD, after he was found injured with deep punctures wounds on his chest, possibly caused by a mountain lion attack. Hugo never let that bring him down or slow him down. He is a happy boy who is sweet and gentle with everyone. He is now fully healed, and ready for his furever home! Hugo is approximately 2 y.o. He is an initially shy, loving young dog with a gentle personality. You couldn’t ask for a more devoted companion than Hugo! He gets along well with other dogs of all sizes, is learning how to play, and enjoys toys and chews. Devoted and sweet, bright and eager, Hugo is an absolute delight! Hugo is such a wonderful guy! He loves his people, his belly rubs, and his pillow, but is also a great partner for walks. We have no doubt that with some more practice he would be a great jogging partner. And he's truly perfect, because he also loves to relax in the house and cuddle up for a movie! Hugo can be a little shy and unsure around strangers and will need slow, managed introductions to new people in the home. Because of that, a quieter home without a lot of different people going in and out would be best for this sweet, lovable boy. Hugo really loves his Kong toy filled with peanut butter! Hugo has learned crate-up on command ("go to bed") and is a very smart boy who is eager to please and ready to learn more. He’s fully house-trained and has taken to walking on a leash very easily (although he will still need some patient training to be a real pro). Hugo can get a little anxious in his crate, but keeps getting better at it, especially if there's another dog next to him. Hugo is a wonderful boy who keeps learning and blossoming as he becomes more comfortable in his new surroundings. We have no doubt that with time and patience, he will continue to do so in his new home. Being around other dogs has helped Hugo adjust and gain confidence faster. Because of that, we would like for Hugo to have a dog buddy in his forever home. Hugo is a truly fabulous, very adaptable dog, that would be the delight of just about any dog lover! Hugo is an awesome, very lovable boy who like any of our dogs, will excel with active adopters who are able to provide daily walks in addition to backyard playtime, outings for socialization, and the usual training (positive reinforcement training) that GSDs require. Hugo's adoption fee is $275, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like all German Shepherds and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Hugo will need training consistency, boundaries, and sufficient activity and socialization. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his leash skills, manners, and social skills. Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. Please review the information in the "About Us" and "Adopt" sections on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org), as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.

    Breed: German Shepherd Dog-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
Murphy is an adorable, gentle, very sweet, almost 2 y.o. boy who can be a little shy at first, but is very lovable and affectionate as soon as he knows you. Murphy loves his toys and plays enthusiastically with them by tossing them around and making them squeak. It's super cute to watch! He's pretty talented and he's able to sometimes juggle 2-3 balls at a time! In fact, if his human is busy, he will entertain himself for hours juggling and playing fetch on his own. He is a lot of fun to watch! He loves his ball so much that he will take it everywhere, if allowed! He also absolutely loves to sit under the big tree in the yard to watch the squirrels play! Murphy is wonderful with respectful children of all ages and sizes. He is extra gentle, careful and lovable. He will watch for queues and never jumps or plays too rough with his “little” friends. He seems to feel safe around children and plays ever so gently as he “requests” fetch time with them by dropping his ball at their feet. Murphy is a great boy who is intelligent, eager-to-please, and very teachable. He will thrive in an active home that will continue his training, take him on walks, play fetch in the yard, and provide him structure with lots of love. Murphy is very smart, desires to please his human and responds well to consistent positive reinforcement. Murphy knows the house rules and needs a leader who provides consistent and calm guidance. He is a sensitive boy who will retreat to his kennel if he feels he is in trouble and give himself a “timeout” when needed. Murphy is learning to walk nicely on leash as he's still a puppy, and tends to get distracted by all the sights, sounds and small critters. With just a little more practice, Murphy will make a great walking (or running) buddy! Murphy is potty-trained, kennel trained and knows some basic commands such as "sit", "down", "come", "kennel", and "off". He is a really smart boy who knows what a lot of words means: ride, outside, ball, toy, etc... Murphy enjoys his kennel and crates well. He is gentle and takes treats nicely. He loves a Kong with some peanut butter in it, marrow bones, and just about any other treat! Murphy loves car rides and going everywhere with his humans. He does well in public and is always calm and gentle with people of all sizes and shapes. He can be a bit shy at times and he will look to his human for guidance. Murphy does well with the neighbor dogs through the fence and will wag his tail. He also does well on a leash around other dogs on walks and outings as long as they are not super close – until he feels safe. He will just require slow and structured introductions to other dogs as he is still learning proper interaction and play. He wants to play but can get a little overwhelmed or nervous when another dog is in his space. With more time, structure, and socialization, he will continue to learn. Murphy would love a home on the quiet side, without a lot of people coming and going. Murphy has been doing well in his foster home with visitors as long as he is allowed to use his kennel as needed to decompress and come out when ready. Murphy bonds quickly. Once he trusts his human and knows there is nothing to fear, he will look to you for direction, follow your lead and welcome gentle affection from visitors. Murphy is enjoying learning that the world is a safe and fun place. Murphy is looking for a patient forever pet parent who will not rush him, who will allow him plenty of time to adjust to his new home, and who will continue to provide gentle, patient socialization. With routine, consistency, structure, outings, and other socialization, Murphy will continue to gain confidence and blossom. Murphy is a truly lovable and amazing dog and will make a great companion for one very lucky adopter or family. He will be happy to go on adventures with you or hang out giving snuggles for a quiet evening in. His foster mom only has great things to say about him. If you are looking for a loyal new companion and would like to open your home to a loving, sweet, playful, and smart dog – then Murphy is your boy! Murphy's adoption fee is $275, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. If she isn’t directly by your side, you can find her playing with her favorite tug of war rope. If you aren’t mesmerized by her sky blue eyes, you will be by her charming personality. Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Adoption Fee: $325. German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information. Titan is an adorable 9 month-old puppy who came from a reservation in SD. Titan has a charming personality and is such a lovable boy! Titan was diagnosed with hypertrophic osteodystrophy (HOD) at around 4 months old. HOD feels like painful growing pains and can cause fevers, especially during flare-ups. Titan is doing well, but his activity needs to be limited. Titan is friendly, outgoing, and affectionate with people (including kids) and other dogs. He’s potty and crate-trained. He rides well in the car, and likes to ride shot gun whenever possible! Titan loves chew toys. He loves any place, as long as it’s next to you. He's as fearless as he is curious. Right now, while he grows, he is on restricted activity, however, if he were allowed, he would love to play with the household dogs! He loves to be around them and loves to cuddle with them. Titan would love to have a dog buddy in his forever home! Titan is very cuddly with his humans as well. His foster mom tells us that he is a real snuggle bug! "At night when he is tired and ready for sleep, he likes to crawl up on your lap to be held or lays on your legs. He thinks he is a baby." He is still a puppy, and he is working on not mouthing, and not jumping up when excited. He is a smart boy, who is eager to please, and very treat-motivated. He is a very lovable youngster. Titan’s HOD is currently under good control thanks to good management in his foster home. However, when Titan has a flare up, it can take days to weeks for him to make a full recovery. During flare ups, Titan’s forearms may become visibly swollen, and the debilitating pain can make him lethargic and leave him unable to get up to relieve himself. At that point, it is important to ensure that he continues to eat, drink, urinate, and defecate normally, and to keep him clean, and comfortable with pain medications, steroids, and stomach protectants, under the direction of your vet. Depending on the severity of the flare-up, Titan may need to be hospitalized on IV fluids and injectable pain meds until he’s able to eat again. However, he has not required this since he was 5 months old, as his HOD has been under good control through restricted activity and diet, and his relapses have been mild enough that they can be managed at home with pain meds. It is possible that Titan may continue to have flare-ups as he continues to grow, until around 1.5 to 2 years of age. To limit the frequency and severity of Titan’s flare-ups, his adopters must be willing to follow this plan of care until Titan is done growing: normal activity in the house is ok (but no roughhousing), no long walks, no play-wrestling with other dogs, and no strenuous exercise (keep on a leash when outside); do not overfeed and do not give supplements; a large-breed puppy diet is best (must avoid too much protein). Titan's adoption fee is $325, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Like all German Shepherd Dogs, and other herding breed mixes that we have in rescue, Titan will need training, consistency, boundaries, and while right now he is on limited activity, he will eventually (once he recovers) need plenty of activity and socialization. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his leash skills, manners, and social skills. Our breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. Breed: Border Collie
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Collie (medium coat). Please contact Rose (japchinrose@gmail.com) for more information about this pet. Ziggy is a purebred 2-3 year old border collie that plays like a puppy. He was rescued from a horrible animal abuse case. He is shy around new people he meets but incredibly affectionate once he knows and trusts you. Our foster home is working on socialization and getting him to trust new people he meets but it will be a long process and the new owners must be willing to continue. Therefore, an adult only home, especially one familiar with herding breeds, is required. UPDATE from his foster mom: He gets along great with other dogs and pesters my cat just for fun. Cat seems OK with it. Someplace along the line, someone showed him a great deal of love. While he’s really fearful of strangers, he couldn’t be more affectionate toward me. He’s quite the snuggler and kisser. Just so happy to be part of a family. He gets in and out of the car on his own now (cuz we go fun places). He’s had bad experiences with vets so yesterday I walked him through a Vet Clinic and he got to look around without having to be examined. Even took a treat from the desk manager’s hand. Haven’t had any accidents in the house but then I’m home all day to let him out. Other than being rambunctious, the only thing he’s harmed was a recent Coldwater Creek catalog. He likes to chew and is happy with bones & toys. He does bark quite a bit. It’s generally notifying the neighborhood that he’s on patrol or talking with dogs he can’t see. However, when someone walks by, he barks constantly and runs the fence line so we’re working on that. He also likes to chase the occasional vehicle so dealing with that too. He’s a quick learner. UPDATE 8/7: Ziggy went to his 1st herding sheep lesson and did great. We really think herding might increase his confidence! To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $200 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs. We do not ship dogs. All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranaged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.

Her favorite thing to do is play with the other playful dogs in her foster home. Ivy loves other dogs and would go right into playing with every dog that she meets! However, because she is such an enthusiastic, hands-on player, and doesn't always take cues when other dogs are not in the mood to play, she would probably do best with equally playful, non-dominant dogs, who are tolerant of other dogs in their space. Ivy also loves toys, especially stuffless animals, and works really hard on trying to get the squeaker out! Ivy is always excited to see you when you get home and is full of lovings. Even though she is not necessarily a big cuddler, when she wants attention she will jump right up to your lap and roll over for some belly rubs! Ivy loves to talk and will tell you all about it if you let her. She is a sweetheart who can be a bit of a goof. Ivy is simply adorable! Ivy will need an active home able to provide daily walks, in addition to backyard playtime, outings for socialization, and the usual training that GSD youngsters require. Ivy would love to be someone's running or jogging partner. Ivy's adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Ivy is a wonderful girl who will be the delight of an active, GSD-loving owner. Like all German Shepherds and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Ivy will need training (positive reinforcement training), consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Hank – isn’t he one gorgeous dog? Hank is a 5-year-old, 90-pound, German Sheperd mix. He’s a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, who gets along with people of all ages, including kids. Hank has spent much of his life as an outdoor dog, but he’s quickly adapting to life indoors. Hank gets along with other dogs, but probably needs a cat-free home, as he’s a little too curious about felines. He even walks nicely on a leash! What more could you want? If you’re interested in Hank, just let us know, we’d be glad to hook you up! If you would like to meet Hank, please contact info@nebraskanokill.org. Suggested adoption donation: $250.00.
